We recently attended the USEF/USDF dressage breeders in-hand show with
our beautiful 3 year old Donatiena (Donnerschlag x EM Ladylike) for
her first ever breed show. We were thrilled to win the 3 year old filly
class; the Hanoverian class and Reserve Champion of the Young Filly
Division. We were so please with how calm and level headed our mare
was - she took the whole show experience as a real pro. We will again
show her at the September 11th breed show to further her exposure in
preparation for her dressage career next spring. Donatiena is currently
in under saddle training and will be presented for her Hanoverian mare
approval on October 20, 2010. Donatiena will be bred to Quaterback in
March, 2011 - this foal will be available for purchase inutero.

Another new addition to our foals of 2010 page! Our beautiful Dutch
mare O'Baby presented us with a stunning filly by Hilltop Farms' Bugatti.
This little lady is very special - sweet and beautiful with perfect
conformation. This was an excellent cross and one worth repeating. This
filly is offered for sale - see Horses for Sale section.
Des Chappeles "Ruby" finally delivered her Contucci filly
nearly two weeks past her due date, but definitely worth the wait! This
gorgeous filly, now named "Confetti" is a clone of her mother!
Three tall above the knee and hock stockings with a huge blaze was welcomed
into the world by her new owner Alessa in Texas. Congrats on your perfect
new addition!

Another colt! Our elite mare Ladylike presented us with a black/bay
colt by Hilltop Farms' Bugatti. I am impressed with what this stallion
is producing - very fancy colt with presence and movement to spare.
This boy will be a big time dressage horse with his movement and self-carriage
- such a charming and friendly little man!! He is offered for sale to
a select show home - see Horses for Sale section.
We
are happy to report that our new barn is now complete and all of our horses
have finally returned home after being off the farm for over two years!
Our previous barns were destroyed in the October, 2007 wildfires that
most of San Diego experienced. None of our horses were lost in the fires.
Our beautiful new barn was manufactured by MD Barns and is truly our dream
barn. Photos to be posted soon!
American Hanoverian Society Inspection, October, 2009:
We are very proud to report that we have once again been honored with
the Top Colt and Best Foal award at this inspection. Our beautiful Hanoverian
mare, Barcelona SP, has produced a champion foal - this is the second
time this mare has been awarded this prestigious honor! Her gorgeous
chocolate bay colt impressed the judges as well as the audience with
his outstanding conformation, head, elegant body type and oh my what
a mover! He is a serious contender for the FEI Young Horse classes -
we cannot wait to see this boy mature.
San Diego Sporthorses has produced 100% site champions at every
American Hanoverian Society and German Oldenburg Verband inspections
that we have attended.
These include: 2004 AHS: Baylea by Batido x EM Ladylike (champion filly
and awarded best mover of the day); 2005 AHS:Markova by Madison X EM
Ladylike (champion filly) and Monterey SP by Madison x Tequila Sunset
(champion colt at same inspection as Markova); 2006 AHS: Weltido by
Wonderful x Barcelona SP (top colt and awarded best mover of the day);
2006 GOV: Cadence by Camiros x EM Ladylike (top foal and premium filly);
2007 AHS: Donnatienna SP by Donnerschlag x EM Ladylike (awarded top
foal of the inspection out of both colts and fillies); 2008 AHS: Ragazzono
SP by Regazoni x EM Ladylike (awarded top colt and best mover of the
day); 2009 AHS: Royal Reflection SP by Royal Prince x Barcelona SP.
We at San Diego sporthorses are quite proud of these honors which clearly
reflects our high quality breeding program. Our mares are of the highest
quality, as are the stallions that we use in our breeding program. We
continue to produce foals that are champions in the show ring as well
as at home!
Oldenburg NA Inspection: Jupiter, Florida:
We are excited to learn that one of our offspring has been named Top
Mare for the east coast based on her incredible mare test score of 109
- this award was granted to Cadence by Camiros x EM Ladylike. Congrats
to our "little girl" as well as to her new owner, Dr. Lori
Minteer, DVM!
The
end of an era: We are sad to report the passing of our last breeding
stallion in the fall of 2008. The imported Dutch warmblood stallion
Werigo was humanely destroyed due to complications of old age at the
age of 28. Werigo lived a fabulous life as an FEI competitor for the
then unknown German rider Steffen Peters. He then continued his career
as a schoolmaster for his adult amateur rider Cauleen Glass, as well
as a short period of time as a young rider mount. He was then purchased
by San Diego Sporthorses and began his stallion duties as a teenage
stallion. Werigo was always the perfect gentlemen, both in and out of
the breeding shed, and produced beautiful foals with excellent toplines
and temperaments. He spent his last few years of his life at the farm
of Dr. Lori Minteer in Jupiter, Florida. We will miss you "marsh
mellow man"....see you at the Rainbow Bridge.
January 2008
We are very proud to be the breeders of the First Place Yearling filly
for the German Oldenburg Verband for the entire United States. Cadence
(Camiros X Elite Mare Ladylike) received this top honor based on her
in-hand scores in competitions during the 2007 show season in Florida.
Cadence is now owned by Dr. Lori Minteer, DVM, of Jupiter, Florida.
Congratulations to Lori and Cadence, and a huge congrats to EM Ladylike
for yet another fantastic filly foal!

Firestorm
– Southern California 10.21.07
Many of you have emailed or attempted to call our farm for the past
several weeks to determine if the recent fires had affected our property
– your thoughtfulness is much appreciated! We are sad to say that
we did in fact suffer the loss of all of our barns and outbuilding,
although we suffered no losses to our horses as they were safely evacuated.
Plans are in place to rebuild the barn – it should be in place
within the next couple of months.

We are sad to report the passing of the black, imported Hanoverian
stallion Madison (Matcho) at his home in Jupiter, Florida. Madison lived
a easy, chosen life as a breeding stallion at Celle, Germany for 10
years (he was the first approved stallion of Matcho) He was then purchased
by an American amateur rider as her schoolmaster, and was then purchased
a short time later by San Diego Sporthorses when he was 14 years old.
Madison was truly that special horse that greeted you with a loud talkative
whinny each time you approached his stall. He was a beautiful stallion,
both inside and out and was so gentle and easy to handle. Madison spent
his last years of his life in Jupiter, Florida, as not only a breeding
stallion, but also as a first class schoolmaster to Liz Olmstead and
Lori Minteer. Madison's offspring possess the beauty and temperament
of their father, and are just starting to make their mark in the show
ring. Good-bye Madi - you were truly loved by all that knew you, but
especially by your latest partner, Liz Olmstead. You have left a hole
in her heart....
Our
Elite Mare Ladylike does it again!
Her 2007 hanoverian filly, Donatienna SP, by Donnerschlag (Donnerhall)
impressed the judges with her flawless conformation and outstanding movement
at the recent American Hanoverian Society inspection in August, 2007.
This filly was not only named top filly, but also TOP FOAL for the inspection.
This is Ladylike’s fourth foal (all fillies) all of which have been
named TOP FOAL at every inspection for both American Hanoverian Society
and German Oldenburg Verband.
Ladylike
is safely in foal to the incredible stallion Regazonni for a May, 2008
foal. This foal is available for purchase – inquire for terms.
Winning

3 and under division! She is currently ranked at first place for yearling

-
Congrats to our client Kasey Cannon and the Batido son “Bonjourno”
(now called Boin Gourno) and his rider Nick Wagman. “Boney”
is now showing Grand Prix Dressage on the A circuit with excellent scores.
He is truly following in his fathers’ footsteps.
-
Congrats
to two of San Diego Sporthorses’ home grown offspring –
both daughters of our Elite Hanoverian Mare Ladylike! Bailey (Batido
X EM Ladylike) was rated at Number 1 in the U.S. for 3 year old Materiale
for 2006; The two year old black Hanoverian filly “Markova”
(Madison X EM Ladylike) was rated 4th in the U.S. in the Young Horse
Inhand Division. Both of these fillies are being shown on the very competitive
east coast (Florida). What a outstanding job for these two “California
Girls”!
-
We
are very honored to be awarded Fourth Place for Dressage Breeding for
the entire United States by both the USDF and USEA. This placing was
based on the outstanding scores received from offspring bred by San
Diego Sporthorses which include: Bailey (Batido X EM Ladylike); Markova
SP (Madison X EM Ladylike); Watch Out (Waldorff X Lehnsgabe); Whinney
(Werigo X Watch Out). A huge thank you to the owners of these fine horses
– Liz Olmstead (Bailey); Lori Minteer – Markova; Watch Out;
and Whinney!
- Congrats to our client Deena Smith and the outstanding year she has
had with her Batido son Brigadier. “Bufford” not only represented
the U.S. in Verdan, Germany last year for the 6 year old FEI classes,
but also tied for first place again for the U.S. finals! Brigadier is
now showing PSG with excellent scores, and was awarded a 2nd place finish
at PSG at the huge DG Bar Ranch Show in May, 2007! This was his first
time showing at PSG – outstanding job – not bad for a horse
that is just coming 7! Best of luck to Deena and Brigadier’s rider/trainer,
David Wightman.

A
huge congratulations to our wonderful client Deena Smith and her outstanding
Batido gelding “Brigadier” who has had an incredible show
career at the tender age of 6! Deena wrote us this week with their exciting
news: “Just got back from Verden....it was such an adventure.
It was a HUGE show with all the top riders including Isabell Werth!
Bufford did pretty good there. The first day he was a little tense and
didn't do the changes well and was 25th (out of 36) with a score of
6.70. The second day he was great and was 9th with a 7.26. He was the
highest placed American horse there and the only American bred one!
We are planning on going to Kentucky in September for the National final.
It really was fun being there and Bufford really did look great......even
in the test he didn't score so well in. There were lots of great compliments
from many people watching. I am very proud of him and his rider, David
Wightman!!!
“Bufford”
was not only the second highest scoring horse in the U.S. for the 6
year FEI Young Horse Division, he also placed third last year in the
5 year old FEI Young Horse Division, and was placed 1st for American
bred!!!
What
an honor to have owned the wonderful stallion that produced this fantastic
horse. To have one of Batido’s offspring represent the U.S. has
us all on cloud nine. We only wish Batido were still with us, producing
even more of these top competition horses….

A Lady". And WOW what a mover! Photos to be added soon to our "For

out of our beautiful maiden mare Barcelona SP by Batido. This colt was
born at the respectable hour of 4:30am - mom and baby are doing wonderful!
We are so thrilled for the owner of this colt, Nancy Burdette of PA,
who purchased him inutero.

March 11, 2004
It is with a very heavy heart that we at San Diego Sporthorses announce,
that our flagship Elite Hanoverian Stallion Batido (Bolero) passed away
in his pasture this morning in Jupiter, FL. Although we do not have
all of the details, we have been told that the vets feel it was most
likely due to a brain aneurysm.
Batido
left a legacy of incredible offspring who are just now starting to make
a name for themselves in the show ring. We wish to thank all of the
many mare owners who were lucky enough to have a Batido foal of their
own - they truly are special.
Goodbye
Mr. B...we will miss you and love you forever.
